Puppy Adoption Information
Thank you for visiting the Solaras Border Collies Puppy Page. We have been breeding, training and competing with the Solaras Border Collies for over 10 years and are an AKC Breeder of Merit. Our lines are a cross of English and Australian imports with a little ABCA registered Border Collie in the mix.
The goal of our breeding program is to produce a versatile border collie that can excel in all dog sports including conformation, herding, agility, obedience/rally, and flyball and most importantly to be a wonderful companion. Structure and temperament are a primary concern when considering any dogs that are used in our program. Our goal is to produce physically sound dogs with a strong desire to please, who also possess an “off switch.” All dogs used in our breeding program are tested and cleared for hip dysplasia (OFA), are DNA tested for CEA (collie eye anomaly), MDR1 (Ivermectin sensitivity), PRA, TNS (Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome) and CL. Any dogs that are carriers of a genetic disorder will only be bred to dogs of normal status; this ensures that the offspring will never develop the disorder.
Our dogs and puppies are all “house dogs.” Puppies are raised indoors, and are treated to sound effects CDs, radio and television until 4 weeks of age. All of our puppies are raised with early neurological stimulation to improve their physiological response to stress throughout their lives. At 4 weeks, the puppies move into the main living area, where they can meet and socialize with the big dogs and get used to the sights and sounds of everyday life. By 5 weeks puppies will have been introduced to a variety of surfaces indoors and outdoors and will have been socialized with children and new adults.
Puppies are wormed at 2, 3, 4, 6 & 7 weeks of age in addition to receiving their first vaccination which includes canine distemper-adenovirus type 2-Parainfluenza-Parvovirus before leaving for their new homes.
Pet and performance puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract and will receive AKC limited registration unless otherwise discussed. Price of our puppies sold on spay/neuter contracts with limited registration is $1,800.
If you would like to be placed on our puppy list, please complete the form below, and tell us a little bit about your previous experience with dogs and border collies as well as your interests in purchasing a new companion for your family. Breeders will have first pick from each litter, however, we will work with the puppy buyers to match the right temperament to each family. To secure a puppy, we require a non-refundable deposit of $750.00. The deposit may be refundable at breeder’s discretion.
Please feel free to contact us regarding information on puppies for Performance, Show or Pet, or if you just want to know more about border collies!
